zP! League Cup - Promotions etc

After a pretty successful trial event for the zP! League Cup, it is with great pleasure I can announce the teams who were promoted and won their respected divisions, Also with some sadness, I can also announce the teams who will be playing in lower divisions on the basis we run another season!

In the Premier Division, we saw two teams finish joint first and will play a playoff final consisting of two maps using the15 minutes ESL match config. ESL Major Series runners up FirstFrag will face DIMEGIO in the battle to see who wins the event overall.

The First Division saw Volatile prove themselves against the rest of the league with a convincing display of wins. Also the team of maelstorm were very surprising, they replaced inXtenso and conceded the first game to Spirit of Amiga yet they went on to finish in the playoff position in the division.

In the remaining two divisions, infinitus won the second division with a relative ease whilst Old School Killers won the third division.

Teams wishing to move in the event may also have the chance as slots are freed from teams folding! However any team that has folded or left the event may need to re qualify for their spot!

ha :D maybe actually but look @ the teams who have dropped out already, it would be quite hard to have 20 games :( However If i dropped the groups sizes or made two groups for one division it could be possible

infinitus won group 2 wooo :P

    Premiership is still unknown :)

    Div1 - Volatile promoted
Either casca or maelstorm will be promoted direct with SoA facing the other...

Div2 - infinitus promoted with DLI

gentle / mouseA or neutronics can play in playoff - last game is decided between ntr nd mouseA

    div 3 - mmmm

we (Dimegio) are in contact with diZe atm to play this match, and we played yesterday the match of week 6 against mystix.

    # Did you like the style of the league cup?
    # What did you not like?
    # How would you improve it?

In my opinion this style is perfect, the groups were perfects and one of the best competition i haved play.

I just think that in a competition like that its needed more than an admin, and the only problem here were us, the answer of the comunity.

thnx for ure effort akaa (and Gamera i guess ^^)

    7 SuSpectZer0 is offline Poland SuSpectZer0 2010-02-26 00:28:03 CET

as i wrote in week 5 comments e-load (previously we love) played today 2 remaining games.

week 4 game eu e-load (we love) [16:1] hu EzN
week 5 game eu e-load (we love) [7:5] es CoolCode

btw tripi... nice one ;D cup has only 5 weeks but you already played week 6 game yesterday ;D

    and about the feedback.
    1. ye, i like teh style, not so serious and yet not just playing for nothing like imo esl ladder. this event groups were well chosen. also like the intensity - 2 games per week.
    2. i didnt liked that so many teams folded/defaulted games, so the only problem, just like tripi said, was the community.
    3. not sure how your gonna do this in this even but i would drop 2/3 worst teams from the specific group to the lower div in next event and 2/3 best going up. also, some of you might think its useless and that im brainless but... i would like to see the rule like ''zblocker demanded on gameserver'' (unlike others i dont flame it, imo its good, and dont lags servers, for sure not all of em) or some antycheat, would be nice to implement this cup with esl for using aeq or at least x-ray. and now aeq as part of esl wire is far more user friendly cuz you just click upload and your match media are uploaded on match www without going to esl web page.
p.s. on next even would be nice to make anotehr coverage topic with all div tables and scores on specific week, same as Gamera did on his website. just because im lazy and i would like to have everything in one place ;d

I really enjoyed this league, and I'm looking forward to the next one!

It was really great to face opponents who have the same level as ours twice a week! Moreover, Div2 was the division where most teams played always their matches on time!

The problem, in my opinion, is that there should be a page where all leaders are listed, with their SteamFriends ID, so that we can get in touch easier to plan our games.
Too many delays have been allowed. I'd like a system where teams can delay 1 or 2 of their games. If they can't play a second or third one before the deadline, then it's defwin for the other team. That would probably force teams to stick to the schedule, or at least avoid huge delays.

I'd like some changes in the rules. I think that teams shouldn't be able to refuse to play at least one half of the game on a server with DBlocker. This league doesn't require any anticheat program, so I think that it would be a plus if both teams were not supposed to agree to play on a server with DB. "In case of a team doesn't want to play with DBlocker activated, they shall play the second half on their own server but cannot, whatever is the situation, refuse to play the first half on the opponents' server" should be a rule.

I'm glad to have been useful to the community thanks to the rankings I've made! I'll do it again if there's another league, if it can help the admin(s). ;)

PS: What does BeLike - Coolcode concern, I've read in some random comment that according to Coolcode, BeLike was granted a defwin.

thing with DBLOCKER is sum ppl suffer with it, however ESL making a similar programme which could be useful. Id like anti cheat but xray is god awful atm :( and ESL will not support this type of event at the moment.

first of all, thanks for your effort an now a rather big list of constructive critism for you to improve:

    - league systems with moveups and movedowns dont work in esport games, unless your league has the power to force the teams to professionalism (e.g. eps). zpleague hasnt. other leagues tried & failed miserably. do you seriously want to put e.g. supremz if they would come back in some time in the last division and force them to play their way up? with 7 matchweeks and 5 divisions to play in it would take them 35 weeks, and i yet havent counted in the breaks between the seasons :D however if you still want to stick to your layout:
[- bring in playoffs for the first division. top 4 qualify.
    - bring in relegation for the other divisions instead of playoffs. bottom 2 of upper division vs 2nd & 3rd of lower division play for the spots in the next seasons division. ]
    - 2 matches per week is too much, even in offseason. DoD:S teams tend to play on the last possible date anyway ;-))
    - wait for a leaguescript to be released for this page or , as sad it would be, host your league on a bigger leagueplatform. sgl maybe?
    - bring in some kind of anticheattool
    - IMPROVE COVERAGE yes, its in capsbold

but generally: as said above and in private to you already, i like your effort, but i honestly think you should rework your whole concept. moveups & movedowns usually dont work in esport and definatly wont in dods. 3 1/2 matchweeks is too short and too much matches pressed into a too short timeframe. it feels like a nightcup and teams and players treat it like it. also there is a reason why every esports league you can think of has playoffs. without them the whole thing feels incomplete and without real winner.

but gl with your new season, however it will look like :))

For my opinion you should put 1 match in 1 week. teams often plays other leagues at the same time. hard to get all matches played within 1 week

16 RicKaaa is offline United Kingdom RicKaaa 2010-02-26 12:02:07 CET

Personally i have enjoyed the League....

My opinion about how to move forward.

Only 1 team from each division gains automatic promotion, teams in 2nd and 3rd playoff against teams in bottom from division above, with only the team in last getting automatic Relegation (if you relegate teams etc)

Thus meaning skill should still be kept to top teams staying in top divisions rather than 3 dropping out to accomodate lucky placings due to defaults !

2 matches a week is definitely too much, It gave the whole tournament a kinda of joke vibe. There was no time to practice for your officials so people just play them to get them out of the way and don't care about results, one match on a set default date/time should make these matches worth winning. Wheres the fun in beating a team that hasn't scrimmed for the match.

yeah i absolutely agree with most of this posts and personally want to said thx, for org and league.

we must foresee every detail for future events and amend next league.
    i liked all the matches.
in my opinion it will be better to make qualification round with playoffs and place teams for further groups.
ofc it's interesting and useful to get some anticheat, but it depends on decision of players. i know xray sucks but it's better than nothing.
and the main problem is teamfolding, and a lot of teams which are changing their name, tag, during the league.
good idea with page of contact information or even steam group.

"moveups & movedowns usually dont work in esport and definatly wont in dods."

How are you so confident it wont? With what uve written you made it sound like all leagues wont work at all and fail.

This event hasnt been a complete failure, yeh a few teams folded but that was to be expected plus akaa set this up byhimself. Next time will be better. I think alot of teams didnt treat this like a nightcup and actually wanted to win and be promoted, i think everyone who ive spoken to actually likes that there playing in a league format.

You can tell zP! only left the comp as they didnt want to have a loss next to their names.

I agree with 1 game a week, and the only playoffs i think should be played are in div 1, 2, 3 just like football :)

and gameras league link is awesome.

23 aKaaa is offline United Kingdom aKaaa zeroPoint! Gaming  2010-02-26 15:10:31 CET

Well thanks micHiii, this is why this whole event was title as a "<b>trial</b>, yes in bold! This is the stuff, we need to take it to the next level - Their are playoffs in div 1/2 and 3 to get promoted etc.

This example of new pro teams coming back has already been spoken about as rockit want in next time, their will be some sort of Qualification event to get into the higher tiers if you feel you should be there, yet to be worked out.

The league system you talked about has had no mention and only nbad has tried to sort a script for me, however we have worked out a new system to make it look better and allow coverage, you must understand, I am coverage whore and running cups, bit too much work for even me! However in open cup you will see the new system go into place which should make it much clearer for teams :)

Teams have folded or been unable to finish, this is a shame but was expected. I am glad it hasnt really effected the groups at a major level.

The two games a week may of been a bit too much however we pcw way to much and I wanted to try some thing different, its not as if we cannot play two games a week!

anyway as I have said many times this was a trial event so all constructive criticism to make the event better is welcomed :)

24 mattiiii is offline England mattiiii 2010-02-26 15:13:34 CET

Of course some teams are going to be able to make 2 games a week with no problems, but you have to cater for teams that can't. I say better safe than sorry and make it 1 game a week, we might see less drop outs this way.

25 aKaaa is offline United Kingdom aKaaa zeroPoint! Gaming  2010-02-26 15:27:41 CET

Yeah I agree, I just felt 10 games over 10 weeks was asking too much of teams who aint soo stable :) I think either way we shall see drop outs, this is why it may need to be select and trusted teams, yet saying this div2 had all games played and the pro's are lagging behide so its hard :(

26 Apone is offline Germany Apone 2010-02-26 15:59:07 CET

maybe because div2 players can focus on that zp event and prem and 1st div teams have to face other matches as well. over all nationscup is actually a big problem for the "better teams" to get so many officials played within 1 week:>

The league system worked well, the two play days worked well for me. Obviously with the NC looming and playing two a week, it becomes a bit of a joke.

It's an interesting system though, I disagree with Lom, I think playoffs and non relegation/promotion would definitely ruin it.

I don't have that much to say about this cup since I only played and didn't really care for anything else, but this is something I noticed and thought was stupid since there are other things going on around it. This time NC took some time from praccing two maps a week equally much and the next time there might be ESL or whatever going on at the same time which would make it even harder to keep up all the praccing. Too demanding and too zeriouZsszzz with 100 matches / week.
