The Day of Defeat: Source community in North America has been fading over the past year. With Cyberathlete Amatuer League temporarily shutting down its operations, due to moving their server park to United Kingdom, the community have been left without a class competitive league to play in.Now it's been brought to our attention that Electronic Sports League (ESL) have decided to open up a Day of Defeat: Source division in their North America expansion.
Over at the US community website fragdods.com it was announced yesterday that the sign-ups for the league now are open and that they are looking for admins. The news post from fragdods.com can be found below:
"As the competitive scene struggles in north america, the european dods scene has flourished. We've already seen some of our best making a team to compete, both as a nation in the nation's cup and as a team in ESL, as well as some of our movie makers moving over to create HOTW's, so it seems fitting that Europe has come to rescue North America from the bleak reality that is Real Life.We here on zpgaming.eu see this as a great move by ESL to support the struggling Day of Defeat: Source community in North America. Hopefully they will be able to turn it around over the pond so we can get a more active community in North America.
Electronic Sports League (ESL) has picked up DoD:S for its North American division.
ESL is a ladder league, comprised of 6v6 play. The rules, which can be found here, are very similar to what we're all used to with CAL, but have a few unique additions that may be worth getting used to.
For those who want to jump the gun and just can't wait to get your team registered, this guide will be helpful.
The only other thing to bear in mind is that ESL uses a different ACS than CAL did (which can only be a good thing - your bank account may be safe), details of which can be found here.
You can find information regarding Aequitas and how to download here.
With the coming of ESL to North America, they have also brought a few IRC channels that you might want to idle - #esl and #esl.dods (on GameSurge)
And finally, the last piece of info you may need would be how to apply for an admin. Find out if you will get to abuse your power here."
