ESL NationsCup Rules Updated!

Not too long ago ESL announced the 2010 DoD:S Nations-championship and as the start of the tourney comes closer, they have announced more information about the rule set and dates.

At the moment, they are planning to have between 24 and 28 attending nations and they're decided to split them over 4 groups.

As announced before, the sign ups will end on this Sunday (tomorrow), so far we have 21 sing ups, but some nations that announced their attendance, are still missing! The rosters are still open for any changes until the 10th of February. After this deadline the rosters will be locked and only a maximum of 2 new players can join the account. From all active players in the team accounts we will randomly draw 3 players for the passport check.

Who those players are, will be announced on Friday the 12th to the team captains. Every drawn player has time to submit his passport copy to a special email account, announced together with the list. The emails will be checked by one admin, who is not an active player in the event and every email will be deleted after the passport check!

If a player with trusted 2 status or higher gets selected the request counts as fullyfilled. Also we are going to contact additional players, who are suspected of faking their nationality. Those players will also have to upload their passport copy until the deadline and they will be excluded from the 3 checks per nation rule.

Every selected player has to submit their passport copy until Monday the 22nd on 23.59 cet. If a player fails to upload their copy by then, he will receive 3 penalty points and remains as barred for the nationscup, until he submits a valid passport copy.

If a player is being suspected of faking his nationality fails to submit his passport copy, he will receive also 3 penalty points as well as a one month long barrage.

As in the football World Cup we will also use 4 different seed pools.

Those pools are determined by the size of the local communities, the amount of teams competing in the international top-tier, as well as the results in former nationscups.

The top seeds are reserved for the big nations who managed to get great results last year. The Scandinavian scene is represented in the medium seeds, whereas the low seeds have Belgium, the Czech Republic and the entire American continent competing.

Top Seeds:
France
United Kingdom
Spain
Germany

Medium Seeds:
Finland
Sweden
Denmark
Russia

Low Seeds:
USA
Brazil
Belgium
Czech Republic

Unseeded pool:
All the remaining nations.

Since the Nationscup will run in the off-season we will have a tight schedule with two group matches per week.

All groupstage matches will be played with 2x20 Adminmap.

For 24 Nations attending the shedule would look as followed:
    Match 1: Monday 22.2.10 / 21 cet /dod_argentan
    Match 2: Wednessday 24.2.10 / 21 cet /dod_harrington
    Match 3: Monday 1.3.10 / 21 cet / dod_anzio
    Match 4: Wednessday 4.3.10 / 21 cet / dod_lennon
    Match 5: Monday 7.3.10 /21 cet / dod_salerno
In the playoffs we will switch back to the usual format, with one match per week and best-of-three Mapelimination.

The Mappool for the Playoffs will be:
    dod_anzio
    dod_salerno
    dod_catania_rc2
    dod_argentan
    dod_coire_rc3
    dod_lennon
    dod_harrington
The default date will be Wednesdays, 21.00 CET.

As known from the EMS, every nation has to announce their lineup and a statement aswell as a working public SourceTV with at least 100 slots 24 hours before every match. If a nation fails to do so, 3 Penaltypoints will be given away (one for the statement, one for the lineup and one for the STv).

Additionally we will use the nationscup as first test run for our new Aequitasrule:

If a player can't upload his aequitasfile because of an error, he has to open a support ticket within the next 24 hours and explain his problem. If the error code is a known one and the solution to the problem is written down the Aequitas FAQ or the user has the error code for a second time after a solution to that problem was explained to him over the support ticket before, penalty points will be given away.

We wish every Nation and their supporters nice matches and a smoothly running ESL Nationscup 2010!

Oh before people start wondering, the groups will be made from "1 team from high seeds - 1 team from medium seeds - 1 team from low seeds - 1 team from unseeded"

7 fAn is offline Germany fAn zeroPoint! Gaming  2010-02-06 14:53:42 CET

no one has to upload it to the public, if you`re chosen you email it in private and it gets deleted right away.

it is just a proof to have a REAL nc, not a nc where for example french players who didnt make it into the a lineup fromed a b lineup as team switzerland. in former nc`s team malta registred and tried to play without even 1 citizen from malta. it ensures a quality cup.

hundreds of players send in a copy to ESL every month for other games, not for NC use though. but it works fine. in the past years users complained about fake teams and players, now they complain because the nc is supposed to be what it should be. this is not going to be a mixteam under a certain flag, but a real national lineup. i hope i could explain that view once again a bit better.

If you wanna play ESL NC, then you have to be prepared to do it, simple. You signed up for this tournament =)

Real nations cup events have prize funds and some have lan finals for the propper serious ones, this is just a regular event hosted by esl.

It's just too risky imo. I appreciate the hardwork that goes into hosting it and to ensure it's secure and all but i'd rather play a nations cup without giving my ID away, I allways thought of them as for fun more than anything ;s.

Also what if a player doesn't have a passport? like phn for example he's not going to pay 70 pound to play a nations cup..

not only your passport proofs your citizenship of a country, you can send in a copy of your ID too.

Just a hypothetical question here.

Suppose a player from Ukrain gets selected to show him passport, how can you prove it really is him? For all you know, it might be an Estonian or a White-Russian (dno if that's the right word for that nationality but ok :p) playing as Ukranian. How can you be 100% sure?

#7 it's up to the admin to know the scene well enough to judge if a team is made up of citizens from that country, situations where a bunch of frenchies make a team switzerland obviously should have been removed!!! You shouldn't expect kids to upload ID's on the internet under any circumstances, even if it is private, besides I don't want some random admin guy checking my passport, who the fuck gave him the right?!

24 zeqL is offline New Zealand zeqL 2010-02-06 16:43:58 CET

Why so much problem with ID ?

Isn't Facebook much an ID Card ? Many people send too much informations on their private life on FB than an ID can tell...

And you can hide all the information but your name and your nationality...

If the NC had a 1000 euros prize per player, i don't think you won't upload your passport if needed to obtain the money...

And in a Lan or a bank, people check ID too...

You can put your ID on a private FTP and delete it once the check is done...

25 turtz is offline Brazil turtz 2010-02-06 17:22:24 CET

i havent read all the comments, since i didnt had the time yet, but i really dont understand the whine around the passportrule:
first of all, it was announced together with the nationscup, so its not like we announced it in all of a sudden. if you didnt want to play under this circumstances, why did you even sign up in the first place?
and on a more important note: people here are complaining that dods aint evolving and that there are no prizes in the nationscup, but if we as admins decide to go a step forward and try to run a professional event in order to take the chance of becomming an official enc title, people complain aswell. i really dont get that logic. the other option would have been, as it is in the enc, enforcing esl trusted for every player. but i highly doubt that any of you player wanted to pay 5€ for a trusted card AND upload your passport copy to the esl page. and that would have been for every player, not just 3 players per team. if you still have your doubts, feel free to leave the teamaccounts till wednessday 23:59 cet, before the rosters will get locked

however I have to agree, this is a bit mad, no one likes to upload personal information. Why have you guys stopped with ip checks? pretty much shows your error of living?

39 fAn is offline Germany fAn zeroPoint! Gaming  2010-02-06 18:50:42 CET

ip is not everything, you can live elsewhere but still be a citizen of another country. its about your current nationality and not from which provider you play on.

and once again its not "upload" to anywhere, this suggest the information is public for everyone and thats not the case here at all.

first of all gj Steuner and admins. good organizzzzation.
and second thing-omg. when i've read all comments i was lil bit shocked about discussions of passport check and id numbers.
well, i think this is going to be problem for James Bond or Jason Bourne (brn not you :) but what wrong with others. i don't think that fAn and company will use your passport copy's to start illegal business, or you afraid that this copy's will be uploaded somewhere in web space?
bth i'm not too sexy on my ID but i feel free to send it.

but i found sth more important, what about time diff. i mean if we(georgia) and for example team brazil will be in one group, i think 21-00 cet is not a perfect time for both of us. i hope it would be allowed to play another time if both teams agree with that.
