The Second Half

The Second Half
Well, my train was cancelled so I am sitting back at home, talking to a few people on Steam, browsing, watching some old frag vids. I think it’s a pretty good time to think back on the year.

Since my last article quite a lot has happened, especially involving us here at zeroPoint! with new teams now representing the name once more, and it has been an eventful six months for sure.

On the competitive front we’ve seen FirstFrag dominate the scene, old and repetitive news I know but the team’s performance has been impressive to say the least with an unbroken win streak so far, while within the top ten competition between the other teams has been close giving us a pretty exciting season and a fairly unpredictable group stage in The Autumn League Premier Division.

Second Division has also been exciting with some well known teams, Druidz, Wombats and Ubiteam, all in with a fighting chance. Division Three looks to be going EnRo’s way, with a pretty stacked team to be honest, but there are a few challenges out there for them.

Lemming and miikaz have done a good job of providing night-cups on a regular basis. Though opinions on the frequency of the cups are divided it is good to see people willing to put in the effort for others. FirstFrag took the majority of wins in the nightcups with Peculiar, zP!, draKon and a few other teams divided up the rest. I think it would fun to bring back the King of the Hill competition and a few exhibition matches (Best of Europe Mix vs FirstFrag for example) and more custom maps to be tested in nightcups.

At zeroPoint! we have the seen the return of a proper management system which has certainly benefited us greatly. Along with the new motivation, new teams have begun to represent the zeroPoint! name but a new out-look has been brought with it. zeroPoint! is very proud of the past achievements of their teams, within DoD:S the name zeroPoint! is almost synonymous with success, but the new teams are based on friendships and plain enjoyment of their respective games.

Our community is lucky to have an ever present group of movie-makers all well skilled in the production of frag videos. All with unique styles all suited differently to our different tastes, it is really extremely difficult, and perhaps unwise, to compare each one to give a verdict on our best movie.

That’s probably enough from me, I figured I’d spare you a long list of competitions and results like last time, I will leave you instead with people’s DoD:S Moments in 2011.

Let’s make it a good 2012.

My best moment was when I realized that Solo was actually a nice guy and when I was allowed to rejoin HardKnocks, one of my best gaming experiences. I still haven't figured out how they can put up with me, but I'm glad they do! :)

For me it was joining Phenix-Gaming (now Memento). I didn't speak a word of french and light wasn't really my strong point, but they trusted that I would improve. Then about 2 weeks later I played my first officials with them which were the first 2 rounds of the qualifer cup. We won both. Then two days later coming home from work to hear the guys beat Ubiteam thus putting us in Premier Division.

I <3 my team :)

There were a few nationscup matches that really stick out in the back of my mind. Losing argentan 0:3 to Denmark then bringing it back to 4:3 on salerno, great team play, a lot of enjoyment and my motivational team talk after map change (r4g3^)! There was also the match against Sweden, antrax, nightmare, nomercy, r0bbz, ki and dockan. We won the first map but Harrington was a draw on cap's and tickpoints (3(96):3(96)) which resulted in us having to replay the map with 5 minutes each way. During the 5 minutes overtime we lost 2 caps straight away which left me raging as the UK lads will tell you, I said that we shouldn't have dropped any (;D). Then on our allies side we managed to get 3 caps with the third coming in the final few seconds from a one Alex Angear who was tired and "couldn't be arsed to play a fucking third map".

Great times!

nice work RORSCHACH.

#1 Everyone has to make sacrifices Gamera <3 :D

I will have to agree with #4. Can't remember laughing so hard that I actually cried. Those 10 minutes were the best of 2011.

Also, being called cheater of doom by ekvall himself after some single shots on argy during a pcw comes pretty close
