Well, my train was cancelled so I am sitting back at home, talking to a few people on Steam, browsing, watching some old frag vids. I think it’s a pretty good time to think back on the year.
Since my last article quite a lot has happened, especially involving us here at zeroPoint! with new teams now representing the name once more, and it has been an eventful six months for sure.
On the competitive front we’ve seen FirstFrag dominate the scene, old and repetitive news I know but the team’s performance has been impressive to say the least with an unbroken win streak so far, while within the top ten competition between the other teams has been close giving us a pretty exciting season and a fairly unpredictable group stage in The Autumn League Premier Division.
Second Division has also been exciting with some well known teams, Druidz, Wombats and Ubiteam, all in with a fighting chance. Division Three looks to be going EnRo’s way, with a pretty stacked team to be honest, but there are a few challenges out there for them.
Lemming and miikaz have done a good job of providing night-cups on a regular basis. Though opinions on the frequency of the cups are divided it is good to see people willing to put in the effort for others. FirstFrag took the majority of wins in the nightcups with Peculiar, zP!, draKon and a few other teams divided up the rest. I think it would fun to bring back the King of the Hill competition and a few exhibition matches (Best of Europe Mix vs FirstFrag for example) and more custom maps to be tested in nightcups.
At zeroPoint! we have the seen the return of a proper management system which has certainly benefited us greatly. Along with the new motivation, new teams have begun to represent the zeroPoint! name but a new out-look has been brought with it. zeroPoint! is very proud of the past achievements of their teams, within DoD:S the name zeroPoint! is almost synonymous with success, but the new teams are based on friendships and plain enjoyment of their respective games.
Our community is lucky to have an ever present group of movie-makers all well skilled in the production of frag videos. All with unique styles all suited differently to our different tastes, it is really extremely difficult, and perhaps unwise, to compare each one to give a verdict on our best movie.
That’s probably enough from me, I figured I’d spare you a long list of competitions and results like last time, I will leave you instead with people’s DoD:S Moments in 2011.
Let’s make it a good 2012.
