My Grand DoD Background
So I saw a review of DoD in a magazine in the summer of 2001 and downloaded the game cause it looked quite cool. I lanned it up with my brother, I still remember the first map I tried, it was dod_sicily as an allied rifleman. I occasionally played online but that was limited as I was on 56k.
After I got broadband I started playing more online, I loved grabbing the thompson and storming the axis base on dod_hill and camping the spawn. So after some time passed a guy called =CC=FuZ asked me to join a clan. I had no idea how clans and competitive dod worked, all I thought was that all clanners were ultra elite so I said yes and joined the Chaotic Clowns family.
The only member of =CC= I ever saw or talked to was the DoD team leader FuZ but at some point even he disappeared. It was quite apparent that the clan had died but I was in no hurry, I was happy pubbing. Eventhough =CC= was never really a proper clan they did show me the way and since they were American I got more involved in the American DoD community.
In the April of 2002 (Atleast I think it was 2002) this guy called Hashey was spamming #DoD on gamesnet. It was about 101st Easy Company recruiting and since =CC= were pretty much dead I asked for a tryout. I passed and became known as Pvt.Welsh (And eventually 1Lt.Welsh). These guys were more active and we even scrimmed some decent teams like KSP (Marshall Drummins' ex-team) and RBC. It was quite a rollercoaster and we went through some good and bad times and periods of inactivity. After leading EZ for a long time I grew tired of all the work and stress and in the beginning of 2004 I left for yet another American clan called Hj44.
Hj44 was started as a friends clan but still had a competitive attitude and played actively in leagues. Towards the end of 2004 Hj44 slowly started sliding towards inactivity. I was also growing tired of not being able to take active part in matches due to a 7 hour time differance. While in Hj44 I briefly played for the Finnish clans Unime and Routa but I never felt truly at home in them so I went back to concentrating on Hj44.
With Hj44 getting inactive me and my great e-friend Se?n wanted to get into European DoD and started a clan called Team creAtive. Not long after this we folded due to Seany not having enough time to play DoD actively.
My next step was joining intense Gaming later known as Team Porridge I really learned alot about competitive DoD while playing with this bunch. Porridge folded in June 2005 and I joined Nova. Nova became like my second family and once again I progressed in leaps and bounds with them. After going through the first weeks of moulding and a bit of e-drama we found an established an active lineup that enjoyed playing together. The next big shakeup came with the introduction of source. The game had it's problems and glitches but we still embraced the game and since we saw it as the future of DoD source we wanted to make the jump and get established sooner rather later.
The transition was fairly smooth despite most of the Finnish contingent largely leaving due to various reasons (lack of interest, low end computer etc...) as we managed to quickly recruit a couple of crazy germans, namely Rake and Backdraft. We were getting pretty decent at the game and, flame away but I'll say it anyways, I reckon we would be a major player in the competitive dod scene had we not folded. Our activity started declining towards the Christmas of 2005 and the final deathblow was dealt when Jag and Rocco decided to play WoW fulltime in early 2006.
After this I played dod 1.3 in random low level ED clans just for fun and after a while I stopped playing the game completely in favor of TM:Nations :D
In July 2006 I entered military service which kept me busy for a year. Honourably discharged in July 2007 and started university in September.
After the first semester I really wanted to get back into competitive gaming so I started pubbing a bit of DoD:S. The clan scene was very quiet however so I decided to give CoD 4 a spin. I was fairly skeptical as I despised of CoD 2 but something just clicked with the fourth installment of the popular EA series and I was hooked.
Then it was time to get a team but no one obviously wanted to recruit an absolute rookie so I decided to put a team together myself. With so many ex-DoD players around a squad practically sprung out of nowhere and now here we are: Team Nova. Still in it's early stages so anything can happen but really enthusiastic about this!
That's about it so far...
Thank you to all of my ex team mates from all of my previous DoD clans, you're all great and I've enjoyed playing with you. :)
